The one rule-of-thumb that I can give you is that the apartments will get nicer the longer since the CONVICTION or CHARGES.
There are no FELONY APARTMENTS that take all felonies and the policies are very different from one management company to another.
Some examples are:
- Allowing a certain felony immediately but others at different times. A common example is allowing a DWI Felony immediately but not allowing other Felonies until 7 or 10 years.
- Allowing Drug Possession but not drug manufacturing or drug distribution crimes
- Not allowing any drug crimes
- Not allowing violent crimes at any time but allowing others at a time frame like 6, 7, 10, 15, or 20 years.
- Allowing No Felonies at all for 10 years, or 15 years, or even 20 years
- Not allowing Burglary or damage to property
- Not allowing Victim crimes (which covers a variety of offenses)
- Not allowing any crimes committed with a weapon
- Only allowing 1 felony
- No arrests in the past 7 years
All this means one thing to most felons. They are going to have
problems and will probably get rejected time after time. Many depend on an
"underground" of helpful felons, not realizing that the offense or timeframe
involved by the other felon was different than their own.
